How to reset a Baxi boiler
Resetting a boiler can seem like an intimidating prospect. Fortunately, nowadays modern boiler systems are designed to be easily reset, with the process being straightforward. Nevertheless, there may be slight differences in between different brands and models. It’s important to understand how to reset your boiler as this often needs to be done periodically to prevent breakdown. Below we detail the step-by-step process of conducting a reset for Baxi boilers.
Why would you want to reset a boiler?
A boiler reset is sometimes necessary or deemed necessary following a troubleshooting procedure. This shouldn’t be ignored, as a boiler reset in these scenarios is likely to resolve an issue that has been identified within the system. If this is the case, the boiler display will usually show an error code. This code will then correspond a specific problem, which can be resolvable through a simple boiler reset. Other times, a reset might be needed to restart the system following a power outage or central heating flushing.

Process of resetting a Baxi boiler
If your boiler model has a reset button, then it’s simply a case of pressing down on this button until the system begins to reset. If the boiler has gone into lockout, you should notice the red light disappear. Although if there is also an issue with the boiler PCB, it could be difficult to notice when a reset is needed. However, if there is no reset button present the process is a little more involved. If you are ever unsure at any stage, consult the boiler manufacturer manual or consult a gas safe plumber. This should also be done if the boiler keeps repeatedly going back into lockout after being reset.
- Turn the temperature knob to the furthest anticlockwise setting.
- Hold it at this position until you notice the red light go out, or the burner come back on.
- Once this happens, the knob can be returned to the desired temperature setting.
- Open the control panel and turn the switch to the ‘R’ position (reset position).
- Hold it there for at least 5 seconds and then release.
- Any fault code displayed should be replaced by the boiler temperature reading.
- A few seconds after this, you should notice an orange light which indicates that the burner has been re-lit.
